1953 Bosley GT Mark I

At the age of 21, Richard Bosley decided to build his own dream car in the year of 1952.  Richard was (I am not sure what he does now) a horticulturist from Ohio who admired and tinkered with automobiles.  Having no experience with body design or fiberglass, Richard hand laid this body on a male model himself.  The chassis is made of 4″ tube frame, a ’50 Ford cross member, ’48 Merc quick change rear end, 12″ Lincoln drum brakes, magnesium center-lock wheels, a 55 gallon fuel tank, a New Process Co. 5-speed transmission, and a Chrysler Hemi (most likely a 331…) inhaling the sweet air through 6 single barrel carburetors.  Very similar to a Siata or Cisitalia in it’s looks, but the slope of the body line is very unique.

Richard put around 100,000mi before he finally traded it to Dick Doane for an ex-Sebring Corvette SR-2.  Richard then took prototype ‘Vette and turned it into his second car (the Mark II or “Interstate”) which was intended for interstate use.  The Interstate coupe is just as cool in it’s own right too.  You can read more about the MK. II here.  The MK. I is currently at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angles, CA and the MK. II is currently being restored at the Creative Workshop in Dania Beach, FL (I believe…).

Now, go build your dream car…Or build a garden…Why not both?!

  1. The restoration of the Interstate was completed by Rare Classics Restorations after a falling out between the cars owner and The Creative Workshop (see July issue of Vintage Race Car; Hidden Treasures by Mark Brinker)

The car is currently in route to Pebble Beach and will be unveiled as part of the special class “Dream Cars of the 60’s”
